A Midway store clerk was Tasered and robbed Tuesday night at Clyde’s Market on the 1100 block of East Oglethorpe Highway, Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Detective Brian Barnes said.
No suspect is in custody, however, law enforcement officers would like to question Michael Reynolds, 39, of Glennville, and Sheldon Wynn Young, of Midway, in connection with the incident.
According to an incident report filed by Midway Police Officer Page Duvale Sr., store clerk Jennifer Jackson was in the shop alone shortly after 11:30 p.m. when a man wearing a black baseball cap, brown shorts and a black shirt came into the store to buy a bottle of orange juice. The man, according to Jackson, did not have enough money for the purchase, so he returned it to the refrigerator as Jackson voided the sale.
The man then tried to buy a package of tobacco, the clerk said. The man went outside to ask his friend, who later was identified as Young, for 20 cents to buy the tobacco.
Jackson told police the man told Young he would pay him back when they returned to their residence.
The man left Clyde’s Market but returned shortly after midnight and allegedly demanded money from Jackson. The clerk said the man told her to, “Give me all you got.”
Barnes said the man reportedly was wearing the same outfit as earlier, but had on gloves. Jackson said he followed her behind the counter and Tasered her on the arm as she emptied an undisclosed amount of cash from a register. He Tasered her again as he made her open another cash register, which was empty. The man left on foot. Jackson was not seriously
injured.
Later the same morning, according to a supplemental incident report, Young returned to buy fuel. The store manager recognized him from video shot before the robbery as the friend of the suspect.
Midway Police Chief Kelli Morningstar and Officer Jeanette Griffin were dispatched to the store and tried to make contact with Young who fled on foot into the woods near the store. While the officers searched the woods for Young, a passenger in the car he had been driving, 1997 Honda Accord registered to John Kent of Savannah, jumped into the driver’s seat and drove off.
A woman who was in the vehicle told police she only knew the two men as Mike and Red. She consented to a search of her apartment. The vehicle later was recovered in the 6600 block of East Oglethorpe Highway and impounded.
Barnes said he is looking for Reynolds and Young as people of interest.
