The teachers and coaches  of some Richmond Hill Primary School will be trading in their instructors’ caps Thursday evening for a McDonald’s apron.
But they aren’t looking for new work – they’re raising money for their school or team.
The McDonald’s by Publix on Hwy. 144 is hosting a McTeacher’s Night fundraiser for Richmond Hill Primary from 5-8 p.m. Thursday.
The Richmond Hill High School football team will have a “McWildcats” Night from 5-8 p.m. Sept. 2 at the same establishment.
Students and parents can come and see the teachers and principal or coaches “work” at the eatery for the night, cleaning the lobby, greeting customers and even handing food out of the drive-through window.
McDonald’s will donate 20 percent of all sales between 5 and 8 p.m. to the school. McTeacher’s Night is an opportunity for schools to raise funds for upcoming programs, athletics, field trips and special initiatives that better the students’ well being and supports their education.
McDonald’s marketing manager Kris Samuel said the events last year proved quite successful for the schools. Between schools in Richmond Hill, Jesup and Hinesville, more than $20,000 was raised in less than six months.
She said last year three Richmond Hill schools participated – Richmond Hill Primary, Richmond Hill Elementary and George Washington Carver Elementary.
“$1,400 is about the average (schools earned last year) with tips and 20 percent of the sales,” Samuel said. “That’s a great amount for three hours.”
She said schools are allowed to hold two events per school year, one in the spring and fall, and athletic teams can also hold two, either one each semester or two during the regular sports season.
