A Brooklet man was arrested Aug. 16 in Pembroke after a traffic stop allegedly uncovered a mobile meth lab in his SUV.
The man, James Gartner Sharpley, is charged with a number of felony drug charges from the incident, according to a Bryan County Sheriff’s Department incident report.
Sharpley was parked in his SUV near Willie Road on El Dora Road around 7 p.m. when he was reportedly spotted by a BCSD deputy who decided to investigate because of recent burglaries in the area.
Sharpley then drove away, but the deputy pulled him over “to ask why he was parked on the trail,” the incident report said. “Mr. Sharpley stated that he was helping a friend look for his coon dogs.”
The deputy allegedly smelled burnt marijuana and a strong chemical odor and later field tests reportedly tested postive for meth. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation helped with the investigation, which uncovered ingredients used to make meth and a rifle in the back seat of the SUV, according to the incident report.
