In 1 Peter 3:15, Christians are told to “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.”
In other words, we are to always be ready to explain to others the reason why we can even have hope in our lives. For many life is hopeless; there is no purpose for being on this earth.
One of the reasons some are driven to drinking or to using illegal drugs is because they have difficulty facing what life throws at them. Some even go so far as to commit suicide or at least attempt it.
There are a lot of reasons why people lose hope. The economy is probably the greatest one now, with so many losing their jobs while others have their income reduced.
Some lose hope when they experience family conflict – either with their spouse or their kids, trying to hold their marriage together or trying to raise their kids. While others lose hope because of loneliness; either losing a loved one through divorce or death.
God has offered us an eternal hope to all who accept His Son, Jesus, as Savior and Lord. Eternal hope means that we have a reason to live here on earth and a promised place at the end of this life where we will be forever. This is a place where there will be no tears or sorrow or pain.
Hope allows us to live this life on earth with contentment as we look to the next life with anticipation. The good news is that this hope is available to everyone who desires it but the problem is that many don’t know that it is available.
That’s where we Christians come in. We are to be ambassadors or messengers showing and telling others about the hope that we have and leading others to the giver of hope.
