SAVANNAH — Savannah Technical College’s marketing and hospitality programs will host a free seminar on working in the international market from 10 a.m.-noon Tuesday, Aug. 24. The seminar will be in the Eckburg Auditorium at the Savannah Campus, 5717 White Bluff Road.
The session, which will focus on working within the foreign independent travelers market, is being held in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Economic Development and is sponsored by the Savannah Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
The seminar is free and open to the public. It will feature speakers including officials from the tourism division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development and international tourism professionals. Topics will include what Georgia is doing to promote international tourism as well as the nuts and bolts of working in the market.
According to Travel South, Inc., International visitors spend five times more than domestic travelers and have an average length of stay of 16.4 nights, and 2.13 million international visitors visited the Southeast in 2008 (the most recent figures available) with a buying power of $1.4 billion.
“We’re excited to bring this kind of hospitality education to our campus,” said Brendan Ferrara, head of the college’s marketing and hospitality programs. “This is an important part of the market for our students to understand and we always like connecting them with industry leaders whenever possible.”
E-mail cferrara@georgia.org no later than Aug. 20 to reserve a seat at the seminar.
