It is my belief that our public school system is the backbone of our community. A strong school enhances a sense of community pride and the place we call home.
As of Tuesday, Jan. 16, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has not granted a permit to construct a new school on the parcel of land near the George Washington Carver School. The groundbreaking ceremony held a few weeks ago at that site was done ahead of the approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
In addition to the Georgia Washington Carver school site, many, including the county commissioners and Fort Stewart Garrison Commander Col. Todd Buchs are opposed to the middle/high school site on Cartertown Road.
A school board meeting is schedule for Jan. 25 at the Richmond Hill Primary School at 6 p.m. I would encourage you to attend this meeting and voice your concerns. New terms begin this month and we should encourage the Board of Education to consider the input from the community prior to making decisions that will affect the community for years to come.
Plesae visit our website at www.richmondhillneighborhoodschools.com for continued updates on our schools and community.
