The following are from Bryan County Sheriff’s Department reports:

Stolen vehicle
June 12 –
Deputy Dan Whaley was responding to Homestead Drive are of Ellabell in response to a stolen vehicle when he saw taillights ahead of him traveling at a high rate of speed.
He caught up to the lights and realized it was the Nissan Xterra that had been reported stolen. When he tried to pull the vehicle over, it sped up. The vehicle pulled into the driveway of 579 Homestead Drive, which was a vacant residence, and almost lost control. When the SUV came to a stop, a male passenger, wearing a white T-shirt and shorts, ran off into the woods in one direction and the male driver in dark clothing ran into the woods in another direction.
Once the SUV was returned to its owner, he reported that nothing was missing. However, there were two medicine bottles prescribed to his neighbor in the front seat. The medication had been stolen from the neighbor’s vehicle.

Entering automobiles
June 17 –
Two Richmond Hill men were arrested after a neighbor caught them stealing items from cars along Larenburg Drive. The complainant told deputies he saw two people looking into mailboxes and in cars in driveways as they walked down the street. The man watched as the subjects entered his neighbor’s SUV parked in the driveway and take items and then do the same to a truck parked on the road. The owners of both vehicles were visiting the complainant, who followed the subjects after seeing them in his friends’ cars. The man yelled for the subjects to stop, but they ran. The man was able to catch up to one of the two subjects when he fell trying to run away.
Deputies questioned the captured subject and detected slurred speech and glassy eyes. After failing a sobriety test, deputies found items stolen from the vehicles in the man’s pockets while arresting the subject for public drunkenness. At that time other subjects walked up and said they saw the man in custody and his friend walking down the street. They directed deputies to the other subject’s residence. When approached, the second offender admitted to drinking and taking several items from vehicles. The second offender was arrested for entering automobiles and possessing alcohol under the age of 21. The items recovered included an iPod, a TomTom GPS unit, a Streamlight flashlight and a tool set.

Battery
June 18 –
Deputies responded to Charles Shuman Road in Pembroke where a man had allegedly been “jumped” and beaten by two men. The complainant said he knew his attackers and that they got involved in verbal dispute he was having with the mother of his children. The altercation between the men started off with pushing and then escalated punches, until a second attacker held the complainant from behind while the other man beat him with a large stick. He said the two ran away when they saw police coming.
