SAVANNAH — More than 200 students marched last Tuesday in Savannah Technical College’s 2010 spring commencement ceremony in the Johnny Mercer Theatre. Graduates included those receiving associate degrees, professional diplomas, technical certificates of credits and General Education diplomas. More than 900 students earned credentials since the December 2009 graduation.
Dr. Josephine Reed-Taylor, deputy commissioner of the Technical College System of Georgia, delivered the commencement address. Reed-Taylor works with Commissioner Ron Jackson to oversee Georgia’s 28 technical colleges as well as the state Office of Adult Education and the Quick Start workforce development program. She also served as the interim president of Atlanta Technical College for the fall 2007 quarter. Her previous experience includes positions as senior vice president of academic and student affairs, dean of educational services and dean of students at Minneapolis Community and Technical College. Earlier in her career, she was the director of financial aid at the College of Charleston and, before that, an instructor and counselor at the State University of New York.
Reed-Taylor has a doctorate of education in educational administration and a master’s of arts in educational administration, both from the University of Minnesota, and a bachelor’s of arts from Spelman College. She also attended the Institute of the Management of Lifelong Education at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.
