A high-speed chase that began in South Carolina and ended in South Bryan on Saturday resulted in the arrest of a South Carolina man who was on crack and had a gun in the front seat.
According to authorities, Clayton Moultrie, 45, was test driving a black Ford Mustang in Charleston, S.C. But instead of returning the car, he committed and armed robbery near Beaufort before heading into Georgia while being chased by law enforcement.
Shortly after Moultrie managed to lose officers around 5 p.m. on Hwy. 144 east of Richmond Hill, he crashed head on into a Bryan County Sheriff’s Department car when he spun around to avoid a road block being set up on Hwy. 144 by Richmond Hill Police and Bryan County Sheriff’s departments.
Moultrie then attempted to flee in the Cove subdivision but was caught by BCSD and Georgia State Patrol officers.
Moultrie told officers he’d been on crack for two weeks and didn’t know where he was or how he got there. He was arrested on three felony violations and was first transported to Bryan County Jail. He was to be taken back to South Carolina to face more charges.
