Bryan County historian Buddy Sullivan of Richmond Hill recently received a statewide award from the Georgia Historical Society in recognition of his services to the Society since 1995.

With Sullivan at the ceremony in Savannah were Bill Jones III, GHS Board Chairman, and Todd Groce, GHS President and CEO. The Sarah Nichols Pinckney Award is given annually to a GHS member in recognition of volunteer service.

Sullivan served on the GHS Board of Curators from 1996 through 2007; chaired the GHS Historic Marker Committee from 1997 to 2010, researched and wrote the book, "Georgia: A State History, 1733-2000," published under the auspices of GHS as a volunteer service project in 2003; and chaired various other committees and projects for GHS over the last 15 years.

"Georgia: A State History" is in its third printing and is the first new history of Georgia written since the 1970s.
