Robert “Robbie” L. Altman was recognized in a ceremony on Saturday, April 24, by Boy Scouts of America Troop 400 for reaching the rank of Eagle Scout. He is BSA Troop 400’s 29th Eagle Scout.
Altman, the son of Clifford and Lynn Altman of Richmond Hill, is a senior at Richmond Hill High School, where he is an AP/honors student planning to pursue a graduate degree in psychology.
For his Eagle Scout project Altman oversaw a restoration and beautification project at the Richmond Hill Burnt Church Cemetery, which included cutting down and removing 23 trees, clearing underbrush, replacing fence railing, planting crepe myrtles and adding a bench.
Altman has earned 30 merit badges and several shooting awards during his years of scouting. He was the first scout in Troop 400 to earn all of the merit badges related to shooting sports, archery, rifle, black powder rifle, and shotgun.
In 2006 he qualified for and joined the Junior USA Shooting Team. Altman also earned the award for top black powder shooter at summer camp in 2007.
The highlight of his scouting experiences was a high adventure trip in 2006 to Sea Base in the Florida Keys, where he developed a love for sailing.
