To stay in shape for their big trip to the state tourney in Turner County, the Redskin baseball team had a scrimmage with Johnson on Monday. This season marks the first time in ten years that BCHS has earned the right to play at state.

The Johnson team, who play for another region, had the same training purpose in mind. The two teams had a game the Friday prior which BCHS won 1-0. Although Johnson won 14-13 on Monday, assistant coach Rusty Beasley said a win was not the main priority going into the scrimmage.

"We only let our major workers barely work on Monday and worked some of the other guys to give them a workout," said Beasley. "They may be called on in Turner, and we want to be prepared. When our star pitchers were through, we held a 9-2 lead."

The boys headed to Turner yesterday to face the home team there in the first round of state in a best of three series that may have spilled over to today. Results were not available at press time, but Beasley said the confidence level is high.

"According to my reports, they are beatable," said Beasley. "I believe we’re a stronger team, but Turner does have a record of winning 12 of 14 games so they are good. We have to play good solid fundamental, smart baseball to win."

Beasley added that, win, lose or draw, the Redskins have every right to hold their heads up high.

"Coach Butler and I are extremely proud of these boys for what they’ve done this season," said Beasley. "We’ve got five or six seniors that have taken a strong leadership role and morale is good for everyone in the program. The boys have set back the standards that were set years ago."

Also on Friday, the RHHS baseball team entered the first round of the 3-AAA region tourney in Columbus in a best of three series against the home team which may spill into today.
