Savannah — Families looking to enjoy the spring weather with outdoor activities can head to Bamboo Farm and Coastal Gardens on March 20 for a spring garden festival. Sponsored by the Friends of Coastal Gardens, the fundraiser runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and will include educational lectures, activities for children, plant vendors and arts and crafts.
UGA Extension Agent Dave Linvill will share the secrets of growing tomatoes in his free lecture, “Totally Tomatoes,” at 10 a.m. Walking tour guide Roy Heizer will tell attendees about Savannah’s garden plants at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. He’ll sign and sell copies of his new book after the lecture.
A selection of bamboo plants will be available for purchase. Children can enjoy crafts, get their faces painted and receive free balloons at the Panda Club tent. Savannah’s Southside Fire Department and Chatham Mosquito Control will set up exhibits. A snack bar will sell refreshments, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources will have a wildlife exhibit.
Admission to the festival is free, but there is a $2 parking fee. Some activities are free while others have a small charge.
