The North Bryan Relay for Life is set for Friday night and event Chairperson Jenny Miller said it should be a night full of fun for everyone.

This year’s theme is "Carnival for a Cure," and Miller said there will be a moon walk, train rides, a dunking booth and an obstacle course for the kids.

Though the festivities officially begin at 7 p.m. Friday night at Hendrix Park, Miller said live entertainment will start at 6 p.m. After the singers, the event will be officially kicked-off with about 60 participants in the survivors’ walk and the opening ceremonies.

Once it gets dark the luminary ceremony will take place and bags will be illuminated along the walking track.

Throughout the night there will be various events, including a lawnmower race, a performance by a gospel group, the not-so newlywed game and Relay Idol.

Later in the night, between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. Miller said there will be games and a pickle-eating contest.

Miller said so far, 15 teams have signed up to participate, and the night’s goal is $51,000, up $1,000 from last year’s goal.

This is Miller’s sixth year being involved with Relay and her first as the chairperson of the event. She said she became more involved once her mother was diagnosed with cancer.

"I’ve been involved because I just want to help people," she said.
