Pembroke city workers will see a little extra in their checks next payday.

City Council on Monday unanimously approved the 2.5 percent pay raise for Pembroke employees, who will see the difference in their Jan. 22 checks.

The raise was included in a $1.6 million budget the city council adopted in December.

The last pay raise for city workers occurred three years ago, according to City Administrator Frank Etheridge. The city has approximately 22 full time and 11 part time employees.

"The Council wanted to do this since they hadn’t given a raise for the last three years," Etheridge said. "They had budgeted one last year, but didn’t give it because they weren’t sure what revenues would be. And since they cut nearly $100,000 from the budget and kept the millage rate the same, they felt comfortable going ahead with it this year."

Last month, Pembroke city council approved a 1.6 million budget for its 2010 Fiscal Year that included $98,612 in budget cuts from the previous year. The city’s millage rate remained at 8.359 mills.
