Graham Garrett, of Richmond Hill, was awarded Boy Scouting’s highest honor on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009. Fellow Scouts from all three Richmond Hill Troops, friends and family attended the ceremony at the Richmond Hill Presbyterian Church. Graham began scouting as a Tiger Cub at age 6 and crossed over into Boy Scouting in March 2004 when he began working through the ranks of Boy Scouting towards the Eagle Rank. Along the way, he earned 37 merit badges on a variety life skills, citizenship and career related subjects. He is a member of Scouting’s Honor Camping fraternity, the Order of the Arrow, earned the Mile Swim, the Paul Bunyan Woodsman, Duty to God, BSA Snorkeling, Historic Trails, 50 Miler Hiking, Coastal Empire Council Religious Hike and World Conservation Awards. He also attained the BSA Lifeguard Certification and award.

Graham’s Troop 400 leadership positions include librarian, bugler, chaplain’s aide, patrol leader, troop guide, OA representative, and two terms as assistant senior patrol leader.

Graham’s Eagle Scout Service Project involved leading fellow Scouts in the restoration and beautification of the Richmond Hill Burnt Church Cemetery. His volunteer work crew raked leaves, mowed grass, gathered large fallen branches, scrubbed and painted the fence posts and rails then planted 12 crepe myrtles along the front edge of the cemetery. More than 300 man-hours were expended in this effort to beautify and preserve the historic cemetery.

Graham is a Junior High honor roll student at Savannah Christian Preparatory School. He is a member of the Raider Marching Band and School Chorus. After his senior year and graduation, he plans to study wildlife biology or veterinary medicine. During his acceptance speech, Graham thanked his family, friends and all those residents of Richmond Hill who have supported him during his quest to achieve the Eagle Scout award.
