Former Richmond Hill city councilman Van Hunter announced his candidacy Thursday for the post 1 council seat.

Post 1 incumbent JoAnn Bickley said she will be running again, and she will make an official announcement next week.

Next week is qualifying week for the Nov. 3 election, and other positions on the ballot include Floyd Hilliard’s post 2 spot, which RHHS teacher Russ Carpenter will be running for, and the race for mayor of Richmond Hill, which is slated to feature Hilliard and former councilman Harold Fowler. More names are anticipated to be added in the coming week. Qualifying begins Monday at 8:30 a.m. and ends Friday at 4:30 p.m.
