ATLANTA – Stopping for soda has helped an Ellabell grandmother find the right pop for a Georgia Lottery prize. Phyllis Radcliff-Yaw, 50, won a $150,000 top prize playing the Georgia Lottery instant game Giant Jumbo Bucks. Radcliff-Yaw, a grandmother of four, purchased her winning ticket at Fast Stop, 22933 U.S. Highway 80 E. in Statesboro. “I scratched it, and I was looking and looking,” she said. “I put my glasses on and screamed.” When trying to share the good news with her family, Radcliff-Yaw said no one believed her. In addition to her four grandchildren, the lucky lottery winner has four adult children. “That day I had to purchase a ticket,” she said. “I just had a lucky feeling.” She plans to change her hairdo, purchase a new house and a new car. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 940,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
