In conjunction with the August book room sale, the Richmond Hill Library and the Friends of the Richmond Hill Library will host a book signing by local author and chocolatier David Willis from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16.
Willis, writing under the name D. R. Willis, will sign copies of his recent self-published second novel, “In Shadows.”
A mystery full of suspense, “In Shadows” continues the saga of the Davis family that Willis introduced in his first novel, “Lonely Deceptions”. Unlike the first novel which is set in present time and focuses primarily on Nick, a machinist in New Jersey, “In Shadows” is a prequel, going back to the 1940s, shortly after WWII. The setting is largely Savannah, but the impetus for the mystery arises in a Japanese camp in Thailand where Roth Braun has killed the inhabitants in order to find a mysterious package left by his father. Braun’s discovery emphasizes his tension-riddled relationship with his father who, even in death, continues to dictate his life.
After his return from the war, Nelson Davis experiences the tragedy of losing his parents and the trauma of fulfilling his promise to take care of his older brother Christopher. The two brothers open a chocolate shop. But the specter of espionage during the war and a corporation that has now grown quite large, looms over Nelson as he, along with a Savannah Times reporter, Rose Blake, seeks to unravel the mystery of a list of names his now-dead older brother, Christopher, had given Blake. Braun’s story and Nelson’s intersect, and eventually the unexpected truth is revealed.
Both novels will be on sale for $10 each.
FOL’s book room will be open from noon-4. As usual spectacular bargains will be available on all types of books, adult fiction and nonfiction and children’s/young adult. Donations are welcome, and tax receipts are available.
