Most of us have just celebrated, in one way or another, Independence Day and are enjoying what is commonly called the Fourth of July weekend.
The holiday commemorates the day in 1776 when our forefathers declared independence from Great British. This represented freedom from an oppressive government.
As Christians, we also celebrate at least a couple of events that represent freedom. First is the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, which made it possible for us to experience freedom from the power of sin, Satan’s rule in our lives and a destiny of eternal punishment. We also should celebrate the time when each of us decided to become a follower of Jesus Christ.
If you have not come to the place in your life where you have a reason to celebrate, the good news is that you can. As Jesus invited His disciples, the same invitation is offered to us when he said, “Come follow me.”
