I just spent five days in the north Georgia mountains. What a beautiful place!
Georgia truly has it all. From the coast to the mountains and everything in between, there is something for everyone. I love living close to the coast and plan to retire and stay here for the rest of my life.
But I have to say this: I have a special place in my heart for the hills and red clay of North Georgia. I especially love to be there in the fall, when the leaves are turning their many wonderful colors. But even in mid-June, there is something about the mountain creeks and the cool, crisp morning air that draws me.
I immediately think of David’s words from Psalm 19:1: “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” In other words, David looked around at creation and immediately thought of the goodness and greatness of the one who created it.
I am in full agreement with that. Theologians speak of two different ways in which God reveals himself. The most important way is through his Son, Jesus Christ. This is special revelation. God has made himself known by becoming flesh and dwelling among us.
But the Bible also tells us that God has given us enough information to believe that he is in what he has made. As I indicated earlier, that is clearly seen right here in our home state. The oceans teem with proof of God’s creative power, and the majestic views of the mountains remind us of his awesome nature.
In the sun, moon, clouds and all that is, God is clearly shown to be the all-powerful, all-loving one. And he is good. All the beauty we see has been placed here for us. God loves us so much that he has given us the ability to enjoy and experience such beauty.
I encourage you, as you travel this summer, to see God’s hand in his handiwork and give him the glory he is due. He is truly worthy of all our praise.
