The other day, I received an email dealing with the issues of why most churches in America are not growing. It is estimated that nearly 90 percent of churches either have stopped growing or have declined in average attendance.
One of the real problems with most of these churches is that they are living in denial. They don’t have a sense of urgency. Until a church is ready to confess that something is horribly wrong, things never will change.
When a church drifts away from God’s purpose, like seeing lives transformed, then it actually becomes a sin. Proverbs 28:13 tells us, “Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.”
This denial issue goes deeper than church growth — it covers pretty much all areas of life. Marriages are falling apart, people are bound by addictions, and individuals are living far away from God. Until people come out of denial and confess they have a need, they never will get help and things never will change.
You may be one who is living in denial, but if you will confess those things to the Lord Almighty, you will find help and hope in your time of need.
