Fishing legend and TV personality Bill Dance visited WaterWays Township recently to observe the progress on his Bill Dance Signature Lake and to consider locations for the filming of his show, “Bill Dance Outdoors.”
Dance was joined by his three-man camera crew to scout and test the quality of the fishing experience on The Grand Lagoon, the community’s 3 ½-mile freshwater lake that he helped design.
Dance partnered with WaterWays to create the Bill Dance Signature Lake almost five years ago. The Grand Lagoon is one of only 10 Bill Dance Signature Lakes in the country and the only one in Georgia.
Dance was personally involved in designing the lake at its inception by incorporating his system of fish-habitat creation, which included development of natural and man-made habitat structures, establishment of optimal water quality, fertilization, stocking, select harvesting and regular monitoring.
“In WaterWays Township, fishing and other water-related activities are key components of the overall lifestyle enjoyed by our residents, and we are certainly proud to provide such a convenient and memorable experience as a result of our relationship with one of the greatest fishermen of all time,” WaterWays Township Marketing Director Vance Askew said.
“I think the team at  Bill Dance Signature Lakes gets as much satisfaction as we do from seeing photos of our residents proudly displaying their latest trophy caught right here in their very own community.”
Dance and his team premiered “Bill Dance Outdoors” on a Memphis ABC affiliate in 1968. From his home and production studio in Collierville, Tenn., Dance oversees a fishing empire that includes his TV show, tackle endorsements, how-to seminars, a magazine and a series of popular “blooper” videos that include outtakes from his shows.
WaterWays Township, the Home Builders Association of Greater Savannah’s 2013 Community of the Year, is a 2,300-acre master-planned community framed by more than six miles of Coastal Georgia marsh frontage, waterways and lagoons.
It features more than 450 acres of recreation and open spaces, miles of nature and biking trails, and the history of Old Cottenham Plantation Park. For more information, go to www.waterwaystownship.com.
