The 17-year-old driver who apparently lost control of his car leading to a March 21 wreck which claimed the life of his three passengers remained hospitalized Tuesday.

Memorial Health officials have not released the condition of the driver, Tam Duc Le, to the media because of his age, but the Bryan County Sheriff’s Department said Le is still listed as critical.

Meanwhile, hundreds of mourners reportedly showed up to pay their final respects at the funerals of the victims, Heather and Melissa Arthur on Sunday afternoon and Laura Cobb Monday morning.

In addition, a candlelight vigil was held Friday night at Bryan County High School in memory of the three teens.

Family, friends and classmates of Heather, Melissa and Laura stood in a circle holding candles in front of the school while one person read from the Book of Psalms.

Afterwards, a few people spoke about the girls, reminding everyone that while they may not have been there in person, they were definitely present in spirit and in the hearts of everyone they knew.

An uncle of Melissa and Heather told those in attendance to be aware that cars and driving are to be taken seriously. After a prayer, the song "Three Wooden Crosses" by country singer Randy Travis was played. The group then moved to the school’s flagpole, where people laid flowers in honor of the three girls.

Reporters present were asked at the start of the vigil not to take photos or interview those in attendance.

The accident occurred March 21 on Hwy. 119 while the four teens were on their way to school. Le apparently lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center line, colliding with an oncoming pick-up truck. The accident is still under investigation, according to the Bryan County Sheriff’s Department.
