Lanier Primary School recently hosted “Arts Night.”
The purpose of “Arts Night” was to highlight the school’s fine-arts and enrichment classes offered to all of its students in grades kindergarten through second. These programs include music, art, physical education, health, technology and media.
More than 130 parents and children attended the event. Participants were treated to a dinner of pizza, vegetables, fruit and cake before attending three enrichment activity sessions of their choice.
All of the evening’s activities followed an “Earth Day and Recycling” theme in honor of National Earth Day on April 22. Activities ranged from paper-making to creating musical instruments out of household supplies.
“Although some may regard art education as a luxury, simple creative activities are some of the building blocks of child development,” principal Jeff Hodges said. “Fine arts provide children with many developmental benefits, such as motor skills, language development, decision-making, visual learning, inventiveness, cultural awareness and improved academic awareness.”
