Richmond Hill High School’s two-game winning streak came to an end Thursday, but you can’t blame pitcher Brian Eichorn.
The junior scattered two hits over seven innings while striking out six and walking only one in the Wildcats’ 1-0 loss to Effingham County (5-5, 3-0).
As good as Eichorn was, Effingham pitcher Josh Gilliam was also brilliant, limiting the Wildcats to just four hits while walking only one and striking out one. Effingham’s John Ratchford scored the game’s only run in the fifth inning.
Chaise Parker led Richmond Hill with two hits while Eichorn and Chandler Newman had a hit each. The Wildcats fell to 2-1 in Region 3-AAAAA and 4-6 overall.
Earlier, Richmond Hill outscored Bradwell Institute 14-9 and crushed Groves 26-1 in Region 3-AAAAA contests.
The Wildcats, who played host Friday to Windsor Forest, will take on visiting Glynn Academy at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Wilder, Hill get All-Region nod
Richmond Hill High School basketball standout Daniel Wilder was named first-team All Region 3-AAAAA recently by the region’s coaches. Teammate Isaiah Hill received Honorable mention.
Effingham County High School’s Jakeenan Gant was named 3-AAAAA Player of the Year.
Other first-team All-Region selections were Jamelle Lanier, Malik Benlevi and Brendan Carter of Jenkins; Sharieff Medlock of Ware County; and Malcom Dingle of Bradwell Institute.
The second team consisted of Glynn Academy’s Shayne Fallon and Dominique Walker, Effingham’s Tanner Reid, Bradwell’s Resha Stoke, Jenkins’ Eric Johnson and Groves’ Savon Lowe.
Joining Hill as honorable mention were Glynn Academy’s Bobby McFadden; Bradwell’s Jamoris Hill; Jenkins’ Jahmell Thomas, Quintis Harris and Quentin Robbins; Groves’ Shabari Davis; Windsor Forest’s Myles Walker and Malik King; Effingham County’s Mondrea Green; and Ware County’s Sammy Burley.
