Bryan County High School Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps is beginning to get accustomed to victories, and the unit’s accomplishments at last week’s drill meet only proved this to be true.
Maj. Charlie Mercer and Sgt. 1st Class Stevie Stringer accompanied 20 cadets to Armstrong Atlantic State University, where the team joined eight other Area 1 schools in a drill and ceremonies competition.
The Bryan County High School Drill Team, commanded by cadets Tori Brewer and Justin Williams, competed in six team events Feb. 22, and placed first or second in four of them.
Taking home a first-place win was the battalion’s regulation male unarmed squad, commanded by Justin Williams.
The Redskin battalion commander, Melissa Campbell, lead a female regulation unarmed squad that proudly took home second.
Also on Saturday, the BCHS Drill Team competed for the first time ever in regulation armed squad and armed dual exhibition.
The armed squad, commanded by Josie Süss, took home a second place while freshmen Stephen Süss and Brandon Miller of the dual exhibition team took home second as well.
The Redskin Drill Team also competed in regulation unarmed platoon, commanded by Logan Scott and color guard commanded by Brett Kohler.
And Lindsay Bowen placed third in individual unarmed knockout.
The team faces Area 9 schools today at Vidalia.
