The Georgia Department of Transportation is seeking input on the proposed widening of Highway 144 from Timber Trail Road to south of Belfast River Road in Bryan County and will hold a public hearing from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Bryan County Administrative Complex in Richmond Hill.
The public is encouraged to come out to view the plans and displays, discuss the project with Georgia DOT staff and give comments. There will be no formal presentation, so residents may stop by at any point during the public hearing.
The project proposes to widen Highway 144 from two lanes to four lanes with grass median, beginning where the existing four-lane section ends near Timber Trail Road and extending about 5 miles to just south of Belfast River Road. The widening would include sidewalks and access for bicycles.
After the open house, residents can view the display of the project for 10 days at both the GDOT Savannah Area Office at 630 W. Boundary St. in Savannah. The plan will also be available online at the DOT website, www.dot.ga.gov.  On the home page choose “Information Center,” then “Public Outreach” and select the project’s county and choose “go.” Newer projects are at the bottom of the project list.
Anyone unable to attend the public hearing open house may send comments on the project to Glenn Bowman, Georgia DOT, 600 W. Peachtree St., 16th Floor, Atlanta, Ga. 30308. All comments must be received by March 3.
