Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps drill teams from both Richmond Hill High School and Bryan County High School competed in a drill meet Saturday at Benedictine Military School in Savannah.

The Wildcats fared well, with 59 cadets participating in nine events. Three Wildcat squads earned first-place finishes, two finished second and three had third-place finishes, according to Lt. Col. Luis Roldan.

In addition, Richmond Hill’s male squad exhibition team earned 1,186 out of a possible 1,200 points to take first place and win “the applause and admiration of all observing spectators and competitor teams,” Roldan said in an email. “They provided a vibrant and energetic performance.”

The school’s girls swept the individual precision competition, with Clare Halliburton taking first, Kylie Getner second and Staci Wilson third. The female’s duel teams earned first- and second-place finishes, with Kyle Krislewick and Caitlyn Doss taking first and Hallibruton and Getner finishing second.

Richmond Hill’s Josh Gill was first and Jacob Williams second in the male individual exhibition competition. The final event of the day was the unarmed and armed knock-out competition, and Getner placed first and Nelson fifth.

“This was an outstanding beginning for the Drill Team competition for our Wildcat Battalion,” Roldan said. “All the daily hours of training and rehearsal are starting to reap their benefits.”

Bryan County High School had both first- and second-place team finishes and a third-place individual performance at the event, which included cadets from BCHS, RHHS, BC, Bradwell Institute, Beach, Groves, Liberty County, Ware County and Windsor Forest.

Attempts to reach BCHS Maj. Charles Mercer were unsuccessful.
