Burglary

July 23 – Keep your eye on your Sony Playstation 3’s, folks. Another one has been stolen in Bryan County, after an Ellabell resident reported someone breaking into his home and taking that, along with a plasma TV with speakers, Playstation games and a semi-automatic hand gun – all valued to more than $2,300. The man said he returned home to an open front door, which the report said looked as though it had been kicked in. The complainant did have serial numbers for the Playstation and gun. The case has been turned over to detectives for further investigation.

DUI

July 16 – Off Holly Hill Road, a deputy saw an Oldsmobile stopped in the middle of the road. When the driver saw the deputy, he allegedly tried to pull away, but the deputy initiated a traffic stop. "I smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic type beverage coming from the vehicle and observed two open containers of alcohol in plain view, on the passenger side floorboard," the report said. The driver, reportedly of Montgomery, Ala., said he was having "vehicle malfunctions" and had stopped it to let the engine cool down. When asked if he’d been drinking, the man reportedly told the deputy he’d had "two or three beers earlier in the evening," about three hours prior to the stop. His field test breath sample was reportedly .137 BAC, so he was arrested and taken to the jail where he was issued a citation for the open container.

Burglary

July 13 – The complainant, from Macedonia Baptist Church in Ellabell, reported a burglary after she arrived at the church on Hwy. 204 and saw the steel security door was open and the wood door was unlocked. At first, she didn’t realize anything was missing, but after closer inspection, reported three missing items: a cordless phone with two chargers valued at $100, a small AM/FM radio valued at $60 and a silver pitcher, two goblets, tray set valued at $100. The pastor’s office was reportedly "pried into," where the serving set had been taken. The report was turned over to investigators.
