Pamela Walker, who teaches fourth grade at George Washington Carver Elementary School, recently completed graduation requirements for the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) Teacher Academy.

Walker was one of several teachers statewide who participated in the two-year academy, aimed at "enhancing the skills of teachers with fewer than four years experience who show great promise," a PAGE press release said.

Bryan County Superintendent Dr. Sallie Brewer said she believes Walker is the first local teacher to be selected for the exclusive training.

"It is my professional and personal privilege to have Ms. Walker represent our county and school in such a prestigious group," Brewer said. "Ms. Walker is a professional in every sense of the word. She is a wonderful role model for children and for other adults. She treats everyone with respect and kindness yet there is no doubt her standards are very high and are not to be tampered with. She is the picture of what a teacher should be. She is always smiling. She has a wonderful, positive attitude and is generous with her compliments when others earn them."

Walker was endorsed by the school district for her position at the academy, which provided a series of learning opportunities over the last two years.

"We highlighted the areas of professional learning that research suggests novice teachers will most benefit from and anticipate that these teachers will build lasting professional networks across the state," said Dr. Ann Stucke, who coordinated the academy.

During the academy, Walker received instruction in a variety of areas including technology, student diversity, data analysis, the new Georgia Performance Standards and building communities of learning at their schools.
