While there weren’t many visible signs of Tuesday’s frigid temperatures, it was impossible to deny that it was just plain cold out.

Thanks to a southern shift in the “polar vortex,” a sprawling area of low-pressure, circulating cold air that typically hangs out over the North Pole, temperatures in Bryan County dipped Monday night into the upper teens, with windchills nearing zero.

Tuesday wasn’t much better as the thermometer climbed to a whopping 30 degrees, though it felt closer to 20 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
