Richmond Hill High School quarterback Nick Fitzgerald was named the Region 3-AAAAA Player of the Year by the region’s coaches, it was announced recently
Fitzgerald led the Wildcats to a 10-2 record and the program’s first state playoff win since 1996. He has committed to Mississippi State.
Fitzgerald was one of 18 Wildcats to earn recognition from the region’s coaches. Other first-team All-Region picks were defensive tackle Zhane Roberts, linebacker Demetrius Williams, punter Seth Vernau, and offensive linemen Caleb Braham and Jon Zellner.
Second team selections from RHHS were running back Michael Clark, linemen Logan Rooker and Colby Galbreath, linebacker Logan Ravita, and defensive backs Stephon Williamson and Darius Brown.
Honorable mention went to linebacker Nathan Soliata, defensive back Tommy Washington, defensive end A.J. Vandegrift, offensive lineman Pierce Lewis and fullbacks Ronnie Harris and Daniel Winters.
The Wildcats finished second in 3-AAAAA behind Ware County.
Other top honors went to Jenkins quarterback Brendan Carter, who was named the Offensive Player of the Year, and Ware linebacker Neel Enriquez, who was named the top defensive player in 3-AAAAA.
Glynn Academy’s Emmett Thomas was named the region’s Iron Man of the Year, an award given to the top two-way player in 3-AAAAA.
Fitzgerald is the second player from Bryan County to win the top award in his region this year. Earlier, Bryan County High School’s Nick Scott was named the top player in Region 2-AA.
Both Scott and Fitzgerald were named the McDonald’s/Bryan County News Players of the Year for their respective schools.
