This holiday season is my most favorite time of the year. Thanksgiving Day has come and gone, but not in our hearts, for we always give thanks for so much.
The Bible tells us to give thanks in all things, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1 Thessalonians 5:18). I especially give thanks for the many men and women in the military who are serving and have served our nation in so many ways and so faithfully.
It seems so appropriate that Thanksgiving Day would precede Christmas, simply because we give thanks in advance for what we are about to celebrate — the giving of God’s only begotten son, Jesus. You see, the bright lights and celebration is appropriate at Christmas time. Christmas caroling, plays and gift-giving denotes a time of joy to be expressed outwardly. God gave His only Son for a lost world, so that in Him we would find new life, hope and joy unspeakable, full of glory.
Maybe not everyone likes the lights and the celebration. Even then, just thinking on the goodness of the Lord will make one’s heart pound with joy. The good thing about Christmas is that once the holiday itself has passed, the Christ in our hearts will continue to celebrate Him year round. As written in Psalm 119:105, His word has become a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path, a light that never goes out.
So celebrate! Celebrate Jesus!
