STATESBORO — A 30-year-old Richmond Hill woman was killed Wednesday night in a single-vehicle wreck on Highway 80 in Bulloch County.

A GSP spokeswoman said Ann Loraine Womble, 30, was driving eastbound on Highway 80 near Prather Road when she ran off the road “for an unknown reason.”

According to the trooper’s report from which the spokeswoman read, Womble’s 2009 Kia traveled 576 feet along the shoulder and ditch before striking a tree.

That impact sent the vehicle into a spin, during which it traveled another 38 feet before striking another tree.

On that impact, the SUV caught fire and the vehicle was consumed, the report said.

Bulloch County Coroner Jake Futch said Friday that no autopsy will be performed.

He ruled the death accidental, caused by blunt force trauma to the body as the result of the motor vehicle accident.

Troopers were dispatched to the scene at 10:31 p.m. Wednesday. According to the GSP, there were no witnesses to the crash, and Womble had no passengers.

A stretch of Highway 80 near the accident scene was closed for more than hour after the crash.

Previous story:

A 30-year-old Richmond Hill woman was killed after a vehicle wreck Wednesday night on U.S. Highway 80 East near Prather Road, Bulloch County Coroner Jake Futch said Thursday.

Futch said Ann L. Womble was driving a 2009 Kia sport-utility vehicle by herself eastbound on Highway 80 when the accident happened. She was killed on impact, but the vehicle was quickly consumed by a fire, he said.

A stretch of Highway 80 near the accident scene was closed for more than an hour afterward.

An autopsy had not been performed Thursday afternoon, but Futch said the death appears be accidental, blunt force trauma to the body, as the result of a motor vehicle accident.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the wreck. A GSP spokeswoman said troopers were dispatched to the accident at 10:31 p.m. Wednesday, but no further information was available Thursday because reports were incomplete.
