The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers and teams for the Relay For Life in Bryan County.
Organizers will hold a drop-in meeting from 7- 8 p.m. Thursday at the John W. Stevens Wetlands Education Center in J.F. Gregory Park to engage volunteers in the fight against cancer by recruiting and assembling teams and participating in this year’s event.
The Relay For Life of Bryan County will take place from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. April 4-5, 2014, at J.F. Gregory Park in Richmond Hill.
“Relay For Life gives us a unique opportunity to contribute to the American Cancer Society’s mission of saving lives, by helping people stay well, by helping them get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back,” said Sara Jane Fogarty, community manager for ACS in Savannah. “Residents who give their time, energy and financial commitment to this exciting event are standing up for the community and its pledge to join the fight.”
Relay For Life events are held overnight as individuals and teams camp out, with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track or pathway at all times throughout the evening. Teams do most of their fundraising prior to the event, but some teams also hold creative fundraisers at their camp sites during Relay.
Anyone interested in participating in Relay For Life or starting a team is invited to stop by the meeting Thursday. Event volunteers and American Cancer Society staff will be prepared to share information and provide resources on how to start a team and fundraise for Relay For Life.
