SNAP at SBCRD
The South Bryan County Recreation Department’s special needs athletic program 2013-2014 season began in October with basketball at the rec gym.
There also will be track and field in November at the Richmond Hill Park multipurpose field, party time in December at The Bottom Park on Magnolia Avenue and swimming in January at the Richmond Hill Swim Club.
All activities will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays. For more information call the rec center at 756-4075 or visit www.sbcrec.org.

SBRCD hoops registration
The South Bryan County Recreation Department is registering for basketball through Oct. 31. The cost is $60 per player and includes cost of a jersey. Late registration is Nov. 1-7 and the cost is $75. Ages are 5-13 as of Dec. 31.
Practice is from Nov. 18-Dec. 20 and Jan. 6-9, games begin Jan. 6 and continue through March 13 at the Richmond Hill Rec Gym on Timber Trail Road.
In addition, SBCRD is providing free basketball clinics for those children who have registered for the season.
Remaining clinics are on Monday and on Oct. 31. Clinics for the 5/6 coed age group begin at 5:30 p.m.; the 7-10 boys and girls clinics are at 6:30 p.m. and the clinics for 11 and up boys and girls start at 7:30 p.m.
Players are asked to arrive at the Richmond Hill Rec Gym 15 minutes prior to the clinic they will attend.

ADA fundraiser at SISP
The The 21st annual American Diabetes Association’s Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes fundraising campaign will be held at Skidaway Island State Park on Oct. 19.
In addition to the existing 5k Walk, the event will also feature a 5k run managed by the team at Fleet Feet Sports.
Registration for 5k Run is $35 per person and will start at 7 a.m. with the run beginning at 8 a.m. The cost of registration includes a running T-shirt.
Registration for the 5k Walk is free and begins at 9 a.m. with the walk starting at 10 a.m. Walk participants are asked to raise a minimum of $100 to qualify for an event t-shirt.
Registration for the Walk & Run will be available that morning of the event as well.
Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes is the ADA’s fall signature campaign and is being chaired by City of Savannah Fire Chief, Charles G. Middleton. The 5k route will wind through beautiful nature trails and along the Intracoastal Waterway.
The Step Out event will also feature a large Health & Fitness Festival with several free blood glucose and blood pressure screenings, fitness information and professional on-site advice on medications along with free literature on a variety of health topics.
Walkers will also enjoy a light breakfast, live music, and loads of children’s activities provided by Skidaway Island State Park.
All funds raised for this event benefit the mission of the American Diabetes Association.

SBCRD volleyball
Volleyball has arrived at South Bryan County Recreation. Middle school ladies will practice on Tuesdays from 6-7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9-10:30 a.m. High school ladies will practice on Tuesday from 7:30-9 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m.-noon.
Both practices will be at the RH Gym on Timber Trail from now through the end of October. It’s not too late to register and come out and join the fun. Go to www.SBCRec.org or call 756-4075 to register today.
