A Pembroke resident was arrested after a stabbing Friday afternoon, according to the Pembroke Police Department.

Amy Sheree McGirt, 25, was picked up Saturday morning in Ellabell after she allegedly fled Friday from the crime scene, a trailer near the Leggett’s Stop and Go on North Main Street.

PPD Chief Billy Collins said McGirt was arrested without any problems and taken to the Bryan County Jail.

In a police report, PPD Officer Gregory Atwood said he headed out to Leggett’s after getting a call from dispatch about a man who had been stabbed in the back.

When Atwood arrived at the trailer near Leggett’s, he spoke with Thomas Shellman, 35, who said his girlfriend, McGirt, had stabbed him. Atwood went inside the residence to clear the scene and found a mess:

“I observed broken glass on the floor, the TV thrown into the floor and the house a total wreck,” he said in his report.

EMS arrived to transport Shellman to Memorial Hospital and reported three stab wounds to Shellman’s back and neck. Collins said he has since heard Shellman is doing okay and did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.

Collins said the stabbing was the result of a domestic dispute, but details about the fight had not been established.

The report listed the incident as aggravated assault, but also indicated an additional incident of cruelty to children in the second degree.

“The environment of the home was putting two children in danger,” Collins said.

The Department of Family and Children Services was called in to help Friday, but Collins said he had no additional details about the status of the children. DFACS said they could not discuss the incident.

On Monday, Collins said he expected to make a second arrest in relation to the stabbing, but said he couldn’t say more until after the arrest was made.
