The RHHS boys and girls soccer teams split non-region matches against the bigger classification Glynn Academy on Friday.

The girls won 2-0 with goals by Lauren Hall and Mackenzie Qua and an assist from Allison Snyder.

"They had some speed, but only one girl with a lot of speed and we just double-marked her, kept the ball away from her for most of the second half," said head coach Steve Kollman. "We man-marked the girl who would pass to her as well. Once we did that, pretty much the whole second half was ours. I learned that trick from Wade (boys coach Wright)."

The boys lost 4-2 with goals by Nic Harris and Brian Wood and assists from Josh Biering and Mitch Doud.

The Wildcats were winning 2-1 with 10 minutes left on the clock before scoring a whirlwind of three points to steal the victory.

Despite the loss head coach Wade Wright was pleased with the level of play his boys competed at.

"We played well," said Wright. "We gave up an easy goal which started that last minute downslide. We knew we had exposed ourselves in the back when we pulled a defender to add another attacker in the front. We did it to try to win, but, in the process, we sacrificed our defense."

Wright seemed content with the fact that they tried different strategies which may benefit them in the long run, despite the non-region loss. He was focusing on strengthening his defense during Monday’s practice session.

Highly anticipated rematches against girls rivals St. Vincent’s and boys rivals BC took place Tuesday night, but results were not available as of press time. Next up is region matches versus South Effingham Friday night in Guyton.
