The Bryan County Bark Park will hold its first BYOD — bring your own dog — evening with a “Yappy Hour” from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 12 at Fish Tales Restaurant, 3203 Fort McAllister Road in Richmond Hill.
The event will benefit the construction of the planned dog park in Henderson Park, and will include $1 cups of Southern Eagle beer, fun “Bryan” cocktails and nonalcoholic beverages for humans and plenty of fresh water for furry patrons.
“We hope that this is the first of many Yappy Hours in the Richmond Hill area,” Wendy Bolton, president of the Bryan County Bark Park nonprofit organization, said. “By supporting the Bark Park’s fundraising events, people will not only have a great time but also be actively taking a part in establishing a safe place in our community to spend time with their human and canine family where dogs can run free.”
Butch and Sherri Broome, owners of Fish Tales restaurant, are both dog owners and always encourage customers to bring their dogs to the outside area of their bar and restaurant at Fort McAllister. They are donating a percentage of all proceeds during the Yappy Hour to the Bark Park.
“We are grateful to Fish Tales for hosting this event,” Bolton said. “And in spite of the heavy rain, which has delayed land clearing, we are still targeting opening phase one of the park by the end of the year. The community has been very supportive but we need more funds to ensure that we can open phase one on schedule.”
Entry is free and well-behaved dogs are encouraged to attend. Bark Park products with the Bryan logo, including koozies, T-shirts, soaps, decals and more, will be for sale. There will be an opportunity to enter dogs for a cutest smile competition in which dogs will be photographed with the photos posted on Facebook where people can vote for their favorite smile for the winner to receive a doggie gift basket and grooming coupon donated by Pawparazzi Pet Boutique and Grooming Spa.
