Wildcats overcome slow start
Richmond Hill High School used a second-half comeback for a 29-7 win over Johnson High in the season opener for both teams. The Wildcats did it all on the ground too, running for 448 yards.
Senior quarterback Nick Fitzgerald ran for 101 yard and two touchdowns. Michael Clark added 89 yards rushing and 45 yards in kickoff and punt returns while Ronnie Harris had 79 yards with a touchdown. Quarterback Xavier Bryan-Long also ran for a touchdown for the Wildcats.
Defensively, Zhane Roberts led the way with four tackles, three assists and two sacks.
Linebacker A.J. Vandergfit had three tackles, three assists and half a sack and DB Ian Chandler had an interception.
Richmond Hill (1-0) is at Beach on Friday night in another nonregion matchup.

Lady Wildcats beat LCHS
Richmond Hill High School beat Liberty County 10-3 in a nonregion softball game Thursday in Hinesville.
Morgan Hunter got the win and Ally Crum came on in relief. Leading hitters were Sophia Lorimer, home run, two RBIs; Liz Wallace, 3-for-4 with three doubles and an RBI; Aubri Reed, 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs; Katie Petty, 2-for-4 with a triple; Carolina Williams, triple, one RBI.
The Lady Wildcats had four errors in the second inning which led to all three Liberty County runs. Liberty had three errors.

For a good cause
Richmond Hill High School volleyball and softball boosters are teaming up this year to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness in conjunction with GHSA Fall Sports Breast Cancer Awareness Week from Sept. 9-13. The softball game that week will be Sept. 9 vs. Wayne County, a JV/varsity doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. The team will be donating a check $ to the Youth Survival Coalition, YSC. A local organization that supports breast cancer awareness.
