Computers, pickups, even a broken outboard motor or two.
That’s just scratching the surface of a list of items Bryan County is putting up for sale on www.govdeals.com, a website that auctions government surplus.
The idea is to sell the items and bring in a little extra cash to put into the general fund, County Administrator Ray Pittman told commissioners at last week’s board meeting.
And while Bryan County’s list is interesting enough — for example, you can bid on an Exmark Mower Turf Ranger that “needs work,” — the website contains a fascinating selection of stuff no longer wanted or needed by governments around the U.S.
There are fire trucks, ambulances, boats, cameras, filing cabinets — including some being offered by an “Ohio Penal Institution” — compact disks, tillers and a 1980 Cessna airplane that has been owned by the San Diego Police Department since 1984.
And that’s just a small sampling. There’s also jewelry, clothing, parts, scrap metal, MREs, or meals ready to eat, Christmas decorations and more. Think eBay but with fire trucks.
Bryan County will sell more than 100 items, according to a list provided by the county. And while an airplane isn’t included, a 21-foot Wahoo boat, “in good shape but engine won’t run,” is.
So are several vehicles, including a dump truck and a number of pickups, vans and SUVs that either won’t run or will with a little TLC.
