In coach Angie Hummeldorf’s first season at the helm last year Richmond Hill High School went 17-13 and 9-1 in Region 3-AAAAA to advance to the state Class AAAAA softball tournament.
Now, the Lady Wildcats will look to kick things up a notch in their second season in Class AAAAA.
“We will try to blend a strong senior class with an experienced junior and sophomore class to better our first round state appearance last year,” Hummeldorf said. “We’re counting on our senior class to lead the way and our goal is to build on last year’s success by winning our region and looking to go deeper in the tournament.”
The Lady Wildcats’ senior class includes catcher Sophia Lorimer, shortstop Amber Rivera, second baseman Cristy Davenport and outfielder Ciara Patrick, who is coming back after she injured her ACL over the winter. Richmond Hill also expects sophomore outfielder Natalie Corbin to be a key contributer. Sophomore transfer Katie Perry, a second baseman, is the team’s top newcomer moving north from Glynn Academy.
All will face high expectations from Hummeldorf, who expects team play and didn’t hesitate to use younger players last year.
