Bryan County High School is used to having success on the softball diamond.
Big success.
The Lady Redskins won more than 100 games from 2009-2012 and advanced to the state finals in Columbus three times during that span under coach Al Butler, who’s team struggled to an uncharacteristic 13-17 last season — a year which also happened to be the program’s first in Class AA.
Butler doesn’t expect the same results this year.
“This is as talented a group of girls as we have ever had here at Bryan and I feel they are up to the challenge of avenging last season’s subpar run,” he said. “We used the month of July to play 20 games and evaluate our girls and we just finished formal tryouts. We have 22 girls in the program with 13 of them at the varsity level and three of whom will share some time at the junior varsity level.”
The Lady Redskins also only lost one senior from last season, Taylor Butler, who is now playing at South Georgia.
