Bryan County students will head back to the classroom Aug. 5, but parents and students will first get the chance to visit their school and meet with teachers during the following open house dates:
Today
• Richmond Hill Primary: 4-6 p.m.
• Bryan County Middle: 6-8 p.m.
• Lanier Primary/North Bryan Pre-K: 5-7 p.m.
• Richmond Hill Elementary: 5-7 p.m.
Thursday
• Bryan County Elementary: 5-7 p.m.
• Richmond Hill Middle: 5-7 p.m.
• Bryan County High: 6-8 p.m.
• Richmond Hill High: 6-8 p.m.  

Girl Scouts registration

Girl Scouts will be holding the following registration events. Girls ages 5–17 and their parents/guardians are invited to learn what Girl Scouts is all about; how adults can volunteer; and how to register.
Registration is $15 a year, and financial assistance is available. The events are as follows:
• Richmond Hill Primary School open house: 4-6 p.m. today.
• Richmond Hill Elementary School open house: 5-7 p.m. today.
• Richmond Hill Middle School open house: 5-7 p.m. Thursday.
• National Night Out at J.F. Gregory Park: 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
• Richmond Hill Kroger: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.
Parents, please understand there is no guarantee that all girls will be placed in a troop unless there is sufficient adult leadership. The support of adult volunteers 18 years or older is needed for new troops to be formed. Training is available free of charge. Please consider sharing time and talents.

National Night Out
The Richmond Hill Police Department will hold its fifth annual National Night Out event from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at J.F. Gregory Park.
The night will kick off with a motorcycle parade into the park by the Christian Motorcycle Association at 5:45 p.m. The fun will continue with games and activities until 9 p.m. A hot dog and pizza eating contest is set for 6:45 p.m., with registration at 6:10, followed by karate demonstration at 7:05 p.m. on the main stage.
Free raffle tickets for prizes will be available at the City of Richmond Hill tent near the amphitheater, and winners will be announced throughout the evening.

Volunteers needed
The Fort McAllister Sport Fishing Club is looking for inshore and offshore captains and boats for its annual Wounded Warrior Fishing Tournament set for Sept. 28 at Fort McAllister Marina. Volunteers may sign up at www.woundedwarriorfishing.com.
Those who would like to sponsor a boat to help with fuel costs or donate any supplies, food or funds for the soldiers, captains or the Family Appreciation Day set for Sept. 21 should call 912-308-3774.

Planning meeting
The Pembroke Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at Pembroke City Hall.

Pembroke Night Out
The Pembroke “Night Out” will be from 5-8 p.m. Aug. 10 in downtown’s Dubois Square.
The event will include a unity walk, a dunk tank, children’s activities, hot dogs, safety displays, informational booths and more.
“Night Out” is sponsored by the Pembroke Police Department, the Pembroke Fire Department and the Bryan County Drug Free Coalition.

Nurses for Nations

Nurses For the Nations is holding a charity gala dinner and silent auction at 6 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, 175 Bourne Ave., Pooler.
The Christian nonprofit group is raising funds to send medical supplies and teams to villages and tribes internationally that have little or no access to health care.  The special guest speaker is Jonathan Daniel from Zimbabwe, Africa.
