Kids will get the chance Thursday to check out fire trucks, emergency helicopters and more, like K.J. Farrel at last year’s National Night Out in Richmond Hill. This year’s event is set for 6-9 p.m. Thursday in J.F. Gregory Park.

The Richmond Hill Police Department is gearing up for its fifth annual National Night Out event, set for Thursday in J.F. Gregory Park.
The event in past years has drawn thousands to the park for an evening of family fun — complete with a dunking booth, waterslides, a rock-climbing wall, face painting, live music, free food and more. And the same is expected for Thursday.
The night will kick off with a motorcycle parade into the park by the Christian Motorcycle Association at 5:45 p.m. The fun will continue with games and activities until 9 p.m. A hot dog and pizza eating contest is set for 6:45 p.m., with registration at 6:10, followed by karate demonstration at 7:05 p.m. on the main stage.
Free raffle tickets for prizes will be available at the City of Richmond Hill tent near the amphitheater, and winners will be announced throughout the evening.
The event is part of the National Night Out effort to promote community involvement in crime prevention activities and police-community partnerships.
For more information about the event, or to volunteer, contact Cpl. Susan Willis at 756-2837.
