School board members got a glance at what the new schools might look like at Board of Education’s Thursday night meeting when architects with Cogdale & Mendrala showed computer-generated renderings of the buildings and gave the BoE a peek at preliminary plans.
The results were generally positive, but an extra 10 classrooms at the future BCES were among items which took some school board members by surprise.
Both District 1 representative Paine Bacon and Vice Chairman Joe Pecenka asked for more time to study the plans.
“We appreciate all the time and hard work that’s been put into this,” Pecenka said. “I don’t want anyone to feel we’re disappointed in them, because we’re not. We just need more of an explanation.”
Chairman Eddie Warren agreed, noting there are bound to be unexpected costs associated with the schools..
“Right now we’re talking $16 million to probably $20 million for the new school on the south end and probably about the same thing on the north end,” he said. “Things are going to come up as well, so we can’t max out the money we spend up front.”
