South Bryan will soon have a new source of drinking water, the latest step in a bigger plan.
The county’s newest well is expected to be completed by the end of August, County Engineer Kirk Croasmun told Bryan County Commissioners at last week’s meeting.
When complete, the Henderson Park well will have cost around $560,000, funded through user connection fees, Croasmun said.
He told commissioners more than 30 users have already lined up to tap into the new well, which will provide water service to the Henderson Park area, including East Buckhead and the planned McAllister Elementary School.
Construction on the school is slated to begin before the year is out, school officials say.
The well is around 560 feet deep and is designed to pump up to 1,200 gallons a minute. The water will be chlorinated at the pump facility before it’s delivered to customers.
The new Henderson Park well will bring the number of county-owned and operated wells to three – another at Henderson Park and one in North Bryan near the Interstate Centre. In all, they are permitted to draw 600,000 gallons a day.
