Two people are in custody after authorities allegedly seized more than 40 pounds of marijuana Thursday.
Jonathan McKinney, 33, of Brooklet is charged with criminal attempt to possess a controlled substance and Kahlihla Brown, 34, of Pembroke is charged with trafficking marijuana and contributing the delinquency of a minor, according to the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team.
The CNT, along with the Garden City Police Department, Bulloch County Drug Suppression Unit and the Bryan County Sheriff’s Department Tri Circuit Task Force allegedly gathered enough information identifying McKinney and Brown as suspects to get a search warrant for a home in the 6900 block of Highway 280 in Pembroke.
According to a press release, authorities executed the search warrant at 4 p.m. Thursday at the home, where they seized the marijuana, a firearm and more than $700 in cash.
In addition, three children ranging in age from 9-12 were seen running from the house carrying bags and boxes. All three children were “apprehended without incident and were found to be in possession of large amounts of marijuana,” the press release stated.
Agent Gene Harley with CNT said Brown told the children to take the marijuana and run into woods behind the house. The children were not Brown’s, Harley said, but she is a relative and they were in her care when the search warrant was executed.
McKinney does not live at the home where the search warrant was executed but was described as a business associate by CNT.
The marijuana seized by authorities has a street value of $52,000, according to CNT.
