Writer Vicki-lynn Brunskill, whose work includes the novel, “Waving Backwards,” faces the questions this week:

1. What do you feel is your greatest achievement?
Raising a beautiful, smart, empathetic young lady and finding both sides of my birth family after 12 years of searching.

2. What, to you, is perfect happiness?
Curling up with a good book at the beach while my family wave surfs safely where I can see them.

3. What one material possession would you save in the event of a fire (assuming your family was safe)?
Assuming that my sheltie, python and guinea pig are also safe, I would take the family scrapbooks.

4. What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
“Bloom where you are planted.” It’s the message in 1 Corinthians 7:7-24.  I’ve lived many places. There is good and bad at every location. You have to find the good and make the most of where you are right now. A new place is not always the answer to one’s problems.

5. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
My tendency to speak before thinking about the full consequences of my words.

6. What is your greatest fear?
Loss of the people I love, who love me back.

7. What real or fictional person do you most identify with?
Jane Eyre.

8. What is your greatest extravagance?
Hard cover bestsellers bought at full retail and smooth-as-silk bottles of cabernet.

9. If money weren’t an object, how would you spend your time?
Flitting between my homes in London, Tuscany, Key West, Jekyll Island and Asheville, N.C.

10. What is your favorite thing about yourself?
That I don’t lie, so I never have to remember what I said. Makes life much less complicated.

11. What trait do you most admire in another person?
Honesty with conviction.

12. What trait do you most deplore in another person?
Phony baloney, puffed up big talk and materialism.

13. Who are your favorite musicians?
Buddy Guy, Elton John, Eric Johnson, Ray Charles, Bonnie Raitt, Ed Sheeran. I was a music journalist, so the list goes on and on.

14. What are your favorite books?
Jane Eyre (Charlotte Brontë), East is East (T.C. Boyle), Water is Wide (Pat Conroy) and sooooo many more.

15. What talent would you most like to have?
Singing. I could sing when I was a teen, even made state chorus in New York, but I somehow lost the ability.
